GateHouse Media Daily Goes Live Print E-mail

March 17, 2008

The Freeport Journal-Standard has gone live with a SAXOTECH Editorial solution, its first new newsroom system in nearly 20 years.

The 13,000-circulation daily in northwest Illinois is part of GateHouse Media, which also owns the nearby Rockford Register Star. Because of its size and the proximity of the Journal-Standard to Rockford, it's operating in a Citrix environment on Rockford-based hardware.

News editor Eric Petermann, sports editor Brett Smith and features editor Lori Kilchermann led the system installation for The Journal-Standard.

“There’s a lot that goes into putting out a paper everyday,” said Andrew Analore, editor of The Journal-Standard. “This system will allow us to produce a more consistent newspaper and should allow our editors and reporters to have more focus on the final product.

“This has been a long time coming. The last time The Journal-Standard installed a new front-end system was in the mid-1980s, and it was a system that is no longer supported.”
